Events such as funerals, memorials, surprises, anniversaries, and birthdays will often leave us with little time for developing quality art. Under the right circumstances, I can go from photographs to delivered product in as little as 4 days. Funeral portraits have become an increasingly large part of my repertoire.
As newborns, we are loved and adored by our parents. Throughout our lives, there are times of great joy and happiness. I strive to bring out that light and joie de vivre. Everyone has this type of spirit at some point in his or her life. Let me help you capture this essence for generations.
In viewing photographs and special times in the lives of my paintings' subjects, I tap into who they are, and catch a glimpse of their spirit. It often becomes a very emotional experience for me and their loved ones. These legacy portraits are typically large-scale (up to 24" x 34"), creating a valued keepsake for this person's family and loved ones. I've had family members weep for joy at the way I've been able to capture their recently departed. In cases where a large photograph is not available, or a viewing is inappropriate, these portraits have brought life and joy to memorials.
To be sensitive to people at a difficult time in their lives, I make half of my normal fee my gift to the bereaved.
I use many different mediums, such as acrylics, oils, and pastels. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
Being open to new ideas and bold decisions make the creating of art extremely enjoyable and keeps the artist relevant.

For the portraits that I do on a quick turn-around basis, I prefer to paint on wooden, composite panels with acrylics. These materials are durable, quick drying, and lend themselves favorably to the rapid exchange from my hands to yours, while maintaining full artistic qualities. As a note, I retain all trademark rights of my work, but I am willing to provide limited, hand-signed copies on a smaller scale to individuals who may request them, thereby providing them a quality piece of art at an affordable price

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am striving to expand my artistic horizons and share my talents with the world around me. Consequently, I have been creating art since I can remember. Drawing cartoons and comic books led me to pursue developing my skills and learning from incredible mentors. For most of my bodies of work, I want to focus on identity. Diving inside myself trying to find understanding is a driving force in my work. Imagery to self-reflect on the inner and outer expressions of who I am. To break down issues of perception, sub surface emotions and relationships experienced during these times of my life, I want to portray honest, raw, and original work that accurately captures impact snapshots of me and my painting subjects.
My fascination, or what some would call, “obsession”, comes from the fact that we all experience life through the vehicles we call our bodies. Finding commonalities with others, and establishing understanding outside of regular communication in painting is what fuels my obsession with figurative imagery. Not all experience is visual, yet is it possible to use visual media to express all that we experience? Distorting my portraits with color, physical features, and expressive mark making, I stab at what I call the essence of the soul.
My attempt with my series is to show a process of thought, experience, and discovery as I invite the viewers to follow along, observe, and arrive at their own conclusions of self-reflection as they share in mine. -- Isaak Wilh
